Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
There is definitely more of an emphasis on being good on the ball.
Dare I say having lots of talented foreign players at clubs has helped provide examples to young players.

The mentality does seem more about getting the ball down and playing rather than lots of ALLARDYCE BALL.

Fergie was bringing through GIggs Scholes and Beckham at a time Carlton Palmer and Steve Stone were getting England caps!

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
I was thinking mainly of Rooney with regard to Ferguson, to be honest. I feel he made him more of a 'team first' player and consequently I think he lost some of what he had as a young player, but point taken. I suppose I was really getting at Mourinho more than Ferguson with regard to getting rid of a player's natural instincts, so I'll retract that.

Westside, the great news too is that the younger lot winning trophies will also inspire future generations to play as well.

There seems to be a lot more cohesion as well, if you look at the National side now a lot of the players did play together through the differing levels at international level which helps massively as they know eachothers games etc and doesn't seem to have that mentality which Lampard and Ferdinand alluded to.

It's fantastic to see, Southgate has done a great job and the ideal person due to managing at u21 level.

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
Good opportunities for game time in Germany Block, as their league like their international side is as weak as I've seen it, so the lads know they won't be going there to just warm a bench if they're good enough.

I dislike being positive over England a lot, but it's hard not to be at the moment.

As a fan, I want the likes of Odoi to piss off for regular game time, as I know it will improve him and in turn our national side.

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
Long term planning and development, such as those described on the thread, FA coaching structure, Sir Trev's input etc, are now starting to show the benefits.

Younger players now seem much more comfortable on the ball and can pass to each other over reasonable distances. The success at age level tournaments, has given younger players the experience of winning at tournaments.

The senior side has done much better under Southgate, than I imagined. Very good progress since the World Cup, as Nation's league results showed. Just need to score a few more open play goals.

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
Duke, it does seem that way. So there must have been a huge change of coaching at younger level.

It's funny how GERMANY seems to be a popular place for the young'uns to go?

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
Considering a lot of other nations have really regressed, it really could finally be time for us to have a real go consistently in the euro's and world cup.

Felt they choked against Croatia, so they still need to sort the mentality part out.

Rice really could be the final part of an already half decent team, as that position was clearly where we were weakest.

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
Generally, the attitude of the young players seems to be improving. They don't all think they have made it after playing one game, and are prepared to play abroad to get experience.

Maybe less of them are playing for a Ferguson or Mourinho type manager at club level

Did you ever actually watch a ferguson side? if you did did you leave your glasses at home that day>?

Comparing his style in any way whatsoever to Mourinho is one of the more ridiculous things I've read on here

Forgot about Wam Bissaka as well.

I really do think we're in with a shout at the Euros next year, and even the next world cup.

Have they ditched the old FA coaching manual by Charles Hughes? They needed to.

Leicester attacking wide player, B son.

Maybe if you watched football instead of worrying what your going to Eddie B on here you'll know who he is?

Harvey Barnes? Sounds like a character from a 1950's Ealing comedy.

Re: Young English Players - What's changed?
Clubs do seem to be giving the younger lot a chance now as well, which could be another reason.

However, the players now seem to be a lot better on the ball and a lot more technical.

Do people feel the change from playing 11 a side down to 5/6/7/ a side has had a difference too?
